History/Herstory/Theirstory Reflection
1. What is the title of your work?
Our Story
2. What inspired your final project? Where did your ideas come from?
I was inspired by my long distance friendship with my best friends, and how despite the distance, have still managed to remain connected and close.
3. How does this piece connect to your own personal story?
This piece connects to the story of my friendship and connection with my two best friends.
4. What are some "images" used in your artwork? How do you connect to these images?
The most prominent image is the panels of the game all three of us play: Identity V. I drew us as the players we main while playing. Identity V is what initiated our close friendship, so it is a crucial part of our story. Another image I used was some art pieces we have made for each other and our art accounts, as we are all very interested in art, whether it is through drawing or music.
5. What materials did you choose to create your work? How do these materials relate to the idea(s) you are working with?
I chose to make my project as an animated video illustrating our story. I chose an animated video because it is digital and virtual, much like our friendship, which has relied on the internet and social media to nurture. I wanted it to be animated to illustrate our mutual love for art, as all three of us are interested in digital artwork.
6. What do you hope your audience understands, when looking at your artwork? What is this piece about, for you?
To me, this art piece shows the close relationship I have with Paula and Em, and I hope the audience understands that long distance relationships are not impossible, and that even though we live across Canada, we can still be as close as people that live in the same city.
7. Do you feel like your piece is successful? How do you know?
I feel my piece is successful because I have captured the chaotic energy of our friendship, and not only that, but my friends liked the video, and just that counts as a success to me :)
8. What mark would you give yourself, out of 10, on CREATIVITY?
I would give myself an 8/10, since I was able to creatively use many references of things the three of us enjoy, but I feel that I could have interpreted some parts of the video better, such as the portion about our first impressions. I felt that was the most boring part of the video.
9. What mark would you give yourself, out of 10, on CRAFTS(WO)MANSHIP?
I would give myself a 6/10. just because many of my frames are messy and uncolored. I think I could have refined some frames more and maybe even color some others.
